Built to service the adjacent Northwest Refining Sturgeon Refinery, the Praxair NWR Air Separation Unit (ASU) was designed to supply 2400 tons of air per day, and that air has to be clean.

The oxygen service piping that was a key component of the ASU had strict cleanliness requirements, including that all organic materials, oils and lubricants be fully cleaned from the system. Thanks to the versatility of PCL’s modular assembly and fabrication facilities, we adjusted our facility set-up to tackle these three highly specific modules. Our team reduced dust and debris by assembling the modules indoors, rather than in an outdoor module yard. We also developed a process to clean and inspect the interiors of the piping to ensure those cleanliness standards were met.
